What you need to know about COVID-19 as a childhood cancer survivor

5/11/2020

The Children’s Oncology Group has developed a Health Link about COVID-19 for pediatric cancer survivors.  Survivors with certain chronic conditions such as lung disease and heart disease or who received treatment that could damage their heart or lungs are at higher risk for complications related to COVID-19.

As a cancer survivor you should take extra precautions:

  • Follow the principles of social distancing

    • Stay 6 feet away from others

    • Avoid crowds

    • Avoid mass transit

  • Practice good hand washing

  • Take good care of yourself by eating right, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress

  • Work or take classes from home if possible

  • Follow the recommendations of national and/or local authorities

Ensure your SurvivorLink health record is up to date with your important health documents, including your survivorship care plan. If you have to go to the hospital, be sure to take your survivorship care plan.

SurvivorLink™ has been designed to increase awareness and knowledge about the life-long healthcare needs of pediatric cancer survivors, and increase communication about the specific healthcare needs of individual survivors between survivor and family, cancer survivor team, primary care provider, and healthcare subspecialists.
